There are a lot of discussions going on about scanning negatives versus enlarging in a dark room. To us that does not really make a great difference. There is a lot to be said about working in a dark room, the relaxing atmosphere. and last nut not least owning real prints, but not everybody has the space to create a dark room. The second hand enlargers may be cheap these days, but paper and chemicals do add up in costs.
Scanners are often quite expensive too, but there are a lot of models out there that work perfectly, but are not supported by your current, nicely updated operating system and that is where Vuescan comes in. The mother of all scanner drivers with a nice interface. It will work on your Linux, Mac or Windows.
